According to the United Nations, severe drought in the Horn of Africa threatens the lives of 13 million people in Kenya, Ethiopia, and Somalia with 1.5 million cattle dying. In Kenya alone, 4.3 million face food shortages, a number expected to rise to over % million due to the two consecutive poor rainy seasons that hamper crop production.

Safaricom came to us in recognition that thriving businesses depend on healthy communities which was not the case. Acknowledging the gravity of this reality, we devised a strategy to leverage Safaricom’s influence and resources for a greater cause. Safaricom PLC through the Safaricom and M-PESA Foundations rallied to unite various sectors that is the public, private, and civil society, to collaborate efforts and provide relief to those affected by the prolonged drought.

That is how “Pamoja Tuungane” which is Swahili for ‘Together, Let Collaborate’ came to life. It was a rallying call, a testament to the strength of unity and compassion. We alleviated the crisis and demonstrated that together, we can overcome even the most terrifying challenges.
