COVID-19 had stifled the dreams of many, Safaricom was on a mission to reignite the passion for football among Kenyan youth. Nothing could hold back a determined Kenyan spirit, on or off the field. They are big dreamers and independent thinkers, deeply rooted in tech and with a global perspective.

At Tessera, we knew that Safaricom needed a resounding comeback of the game not only for the spectators but also for the aspiring footballers. So, we suggested the campaign: Cheza Kama Wewe (Play Your Way). Chapa Dimba wasn’t just a tournament, it was a platform that offered genuine opportunities to the Kenyan youth to realize their dreams on a global stage in their own style and determination. The campaign, “Cheza Kama Wewe” (Play Your Way), empowered them to do just that.

Safaricom stood as a beacon of technological innovation in Kenya, to elevate the playing field, and by leveraging AI-powered GPS vests, player data was collected to ensure fairness and authenticity in talent assessment. Through “Cheza Kama Wewe, we didn’t just organize a football tournament; we ignited a movement. We provided a platform where the dreams of Kenyan youth could take flight, where their talents could be nurtured and celebrated, and where they could truly play the game on their terms.
